A B2B-portal for wholesale and retail transactions.

E-commerce, Portals

MySQL, PHP, Zend Framework

Description of the problem

The customer’s business strategy was focused on off-line sales, so the company had published a number of periodicals with ads categorized by type of goods. A B2B-portal for wholesale and retail transactions was chosen as a new trend for the business’ development.

For its first attempt to create a portal, the client chose a sub-optimal development trend: ads and product (the supplier’s) information was uploaded to the resource copying an offline publication on the Internet.

The idea of detailed categorization into product groups was not considered, there was no structured architecture whatsoever, and the portal was developed haphazardly. The customer had implemented an ERP-system (1C: Enterprise) with a number of already configured and operating circuits that were not taken into account when building the website.

The solution to the problem

wholesale portal

Syberry experts carried out a detailed business analysis and documented all business processes referring the system to BPMN notations. The company developed a flexible system architecture taking into account all the integration that had to be done as well as the users' wishes.

Also as part of the work to be done in the system’s development, we designed the communication protocol implemented between the customer's ERP-system and portal.

The architecture of the portal provided for the system’s efficient operation with a wide nomenclature of goods, large number of ads (more than 100,000), and a flexible management system combined with an efficient multi-faceted search.

  • The client received a fully functional platform for online sales.
  • At the same time as the sales department of 15 people was being constructed, the client was able to bring the project into self-sufficiency.
  • The site contains more than 3,100 companies and more than 100,000 classified ads.
  • Its sophisticated architecture makes it possible to develop itself without significant cost and complexity in the coming years creating new features and thematic sub-portals.
  • The portal is one of the most successful wholesale and retail B2B-sites in its regional market.
